Oil spill: Quick action prevents more mishaps

MIRI: An oil spill along a roundabout under the Saberkas flyover here on Thursday led to an accident involving a motorcycle before it was cleaned up.

According to a spokesperson of the Miri Residents Committee (RC), a patrol team from Permy/Tudan/Krokop/Saberkas response unit discovered the oil spill on the road around 10.30pm.

They immediately responded by controlling the traffic in the area to prevent
more accidents.

“A motorcyclist fell on the road while negotiating the oil slick but he was not injured.

“Fire and Rescue Department personnel were contacted and the patrol unit continued to control the traffic situation until the clean-up was completed around midnight,” he said.

“The spillage, believed to be black oil was cleaned-up by hosing the affected section of the road,” he added.

The source of the oil spill is believed to be from a lorry.
