Body of man swept away in Rajang River found

SIBU: The body of a man who went missing in Rajang River on Friday after being swept by waves while swimming was found yesterday afternoon.

The victim, who remains unidentified, was found around 3.30pm by a search team comprising police, firemen and Civil Defence Force personnel about three kilometres from where he was last seen.

Following the recovery, the body was sent to Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem. The incident happened Friday morning when the man – believed to be aged between 20 and 30 – went to an express boat jetty to take a bath.

He is said to have swam to the middle of the river and vanished after being hit by a wave.

A member of the public who witnessed the incident lodged a police report.

Police have classified the case as sudden death.
