KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) logo was unveiled by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in a ceremony held at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters at Jalan Bako here today.

In his speech after unveiling the logo in front of a large crowd, Abang Johari said the focal point of the GPS logo depicts the Kenyalang bird in the shape of an “S” which reflects the vision of the party in putting Sarawak first.

He also said that the Kenyalang bird on the logo is a protected species – similar to Sarawak which should be continuously protected by all GPS members.

“Today is a historic moment in Sarawak politics where a party is made up entirely of ‘anak-anak’ Sarawak,” said Abang Johari, who is also PBB president.

He said GPS will defend the rights of Sarawak based on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and also the Federal and State Constitutions.

Based on democracy, Abang Johari said GPS will continue to bring fairness and justice to all races and religions in Sarawak.

On another note, he also thanked Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the federal government for giving GPS the green light to become a political entity in Sarawak.

Prior to the ceremony, Abang Johari chaired a meeting with the GPS supreme council, which made up of all presidents and secretaries-general from PBB, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

Also present at the event were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, state cabinet ministers and representatives from the GPS coalition parties.

GPS was formed as a new state pact after the state coalition have decided to pull out of Barisan Nasional on July 12, 2018.
