KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested two men and a woman for having uploaded onto social media insulting comments against Sultan Muhammad V over His Majesty’s resignation as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said today.

He said the men were aged 46 and 27 and the woman, 26.

“They were arrested after we received several police reports on the action of the social media account holders who had posted the insulting comments against Sultan Muhammad V,” he said in a statement.

Two of them had posted the comments on their twitter accounts and one on his Facebook account, he added.

Mohamad Fuzi said the trio were being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

He advised the people to use the social media prudently and not issue provocative statements on the resignation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to the extent of creating a negative perspective on the institution of the monarchy.

Sultan Muhammad V, who is the Sultan of Kelantan, resigned as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Sunday with immediate effect.

He was installed as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on April 24, 2017, after taking the oath of office on Dec 13, 2016. – Bernama
