KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) convoy will embark on a statewide tour today to introduce its logo and anthem to the people of Sarawak.

The coalition’s hornbill-theme logo and anthem were unveiled on Wednesday by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief Snowdan Lawan said the eight-day tour would cover major towns across the state.

He said there would be 19 stops starting from Lawas, Limbang, before they head for Miri, Bintulu, Mukah, Selangau, Sibu, Kapit, Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman, Balai Ringin, Serian, Siburan, Bau, Lundu, Batu Kawah, Sadong Jaya, and Samarahan.

About 60 youths and women from the four component parties of GPS – Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), PRS, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) – will be involved in the convoy to create awareness and promote the logo, especially to the older generations in the rural areas.

“Older generation who are above 60 years old are mostly hardcore supporters of Barisan Nasional (BN) before, and it is during this tour that we want to introduce our new logo, that is the hornbill of Sarawak. We want to pin in their mindset this new logo, and GPS vision, so that when election comes, they will remember our logo,” Snowdan stressed.

Meanwhile GPS secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said the logo would be used during the 12th state election, which is expected to be held in 2021.

He said GPS would also be sending the logo to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) for approval after is official launch on Jan 19 at the State Indoor Stadium here. — Bernama
