LAWAS: The kick-off of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)’s logo here reflects the clarion call for all Sarawakians to form a united front, in full support of the leadership of the coalition’s chairman, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

In stating this, Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong says the Sarawak leadership always places the interests of Sarawak and her people on the forefront and moreover, it is always sensitive to the needs and aspirations of Sarawakians.

“The establishment of GPS was been made in the best interests of Sarawakians. It provides the focus when it comes to fighting for Sarawak’s rights, considering that all the component political parties of GPS are Sarawak-based.

“I also call upon all the people in Lawas to stand steadfast behind GPS in facing future challenges,” said Henry in his speech prior to the flag-off of the convoy bearing the GPS logo at the Lawas Amphitheatre yesterday.

The statewide tour involved
GPS leadership and also local divisions of the Youth and Women sections of GPS component parties.

The tour leader is GPS Youth chief, the Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu, who lit the torch here as part of the kick-off ceremony.

Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting who is also the programme publicity chief, and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bukit Sari branch deputy chairman Councillor Awangku Jinal Abidin Pengiran Jawa, were also present to witness the event.

In conjunction with the launch of GPS logo, rallies would begin from different parts of Sarawak – from as far north as this
district, down to Telok Melano in far south – before all converging
on Kuching this Jan 19, for the grand ceremony at Stadium Sarawak.

The convoy from here reached Miri on the same day.

The GPS was formed in June last year, comprising local political parties namely the PBB, PRS, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

These parties used to be under the Barisan Nasional (BN), but quit the coalition following the outcome of the 14th general election on May 9 last year.
