KUCHING: Chung Hua Primary School (CHPS) No.5 in Jalan Mendu here is calling on the public to support its electronic waste (e-waste) collection drive next Saturday (Jan 19) in conjunction with the coming Lunar New Year celebration.

The event to run from 9am to noon and organised by the school’s Malaysian Red Crescent Club aimed to help reduce the volume of e-waste products being disposed at landfills, according to a press statement yesterday.

“The campaign is also to offer the public a way to discard out-of-date or old electronic gadgets and other e-waste items like computer parts, accessories, television sets, refrigerators and electrical appliances to be recycled,” the statement added.

“The money collected from the sale of these items will be used to carry out community services,” it said.

Apart from bringing their electronic products for recycling purposes, they can also donate old or used clothes.
