KUCHING: Kuching Parkinson’s Society (KPS) will be holding the Parkinson’s Run and Warrior Walk 2019 on Feb 24, 2019 at Saradise BDC, Kuching.

The marathon event will cater towards all level of runners and walkers with its four categories – the 10km run, 5km run, 1km WarriorWalk, and the virtual run.

Formed back in 2o18, KPS started off as a support group by people with Parkinson’s and their families in 2016.

But since its inception, the society has been joined by a number of volunteers and supporters. It now aims to become a support platform for people with Parkinson’s and their care-givers while helping to raise public awareness of Parkinson’s disease in Kuching.

Parkinson’s disease is a long-term degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that mainly affects the motor system. The symptoms generally come on slowly over time. Early in the disease, the most obvious are shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement, and difficulty with walking.

There are no official statistics but it is estimated to affect 15,000 – 20,000 Malaysians and over 5 million people worldwide.

As Parkinson’s Disease progresses, the patients require more support in their daily life. Kuching Parkinson’s Society supports its members by providing free rehabilitation sessions, workshop, educational talks and training sessions for the care-givers.

KPS aims to increase its membership and to raise enough funds to run the Society’s activities. It’s Parkinson’s Run and WarriorWalk 2019 is the group’s inaugural fundraising event, join them to support a good cause!
