SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is not an anti-federal entity but a platform to determine the future of Sarawak, says Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The PBB vice-president said the state-based coalition does not wish to ‘quarrel’ or be uncooperative with their Peninsular Malaysia counterparts.

“We are not anti-federal but we want to determine our own future – the future of Sarawakians. GPS is a party by the people, of the people and for the people of Sarawak, formed to protect the rights of Sarawak.

“After more than 50 years of forming Malaysia, the time has come for us to determine our direction. The future of Sarawak should be in the hands of Sarawakians,” he said when addressing over 1,000 supporters from the four GPS component parties PBB, PRS, SUPP and PDP, at MUC hall here Sunday night.

Also there were SUPP deputy president II Chieng Buong Toon, Youth chief Michael Tiang and political secretary to the chief minister, Romeo Christopher Tegong.

Earlier, Dr Annuar, who is Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, welcomed the arrival of some 60 GPS Flag Rally convoy members led by Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap, who is also GPS Youth chief.

The convoy had earlier stopped over in Selangau.

Dr Annuar highlighted that it is most important that GPS be clearly understood by all Sarawakians irrespective of race.

“We must understand that this is a noble struggle for the future of Sarawakians and this is the most important message that I want to convey to all Sarawakians.”

He also called on the audience to spread the message that the GPS’s hornbill logo will be used in the coming state election.

To get the ball rolling in his Nangka constituency, Dr Annuar said component party members would be going door-to-door to inform residents that this logo must be supported as it represents Sarawakians.

Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan also spoke at the function.
