KUCHING: Advorsys Sdn Bhd (Advorsys), or Advorsys Skills Academy, has been launched to train and produce skilled workforce and technicians to meet the growing demand in Sarawak.

A subsidiary of NB Motors Sdn Bhd (NB Motors), Advorsys builds on NB Motors’ vast experience and network in the automotive industry across Malaysia. Its training is also recognised by the Ministry of Human Resources and accredited by the Department of Skills and Development (JPK).

“In this industry (the automotive industry), we really need a lot of professional workforce. In Sarawak, we face a shortage in skilled workers.

“We hope that through Advorsys and trainings provided with JPK, we will be able to train and produce more professional, skilled workers in the industry,” said NB Group executive director Johnnie Ngu in his opening speech at the launch of Advorsys yesterday.

“We aim to foster a positive change through sales empowerment, education, professional training, and we hope they will help us in providing our industry with the jobskills that we need, and we hope we could open up job opportunities and build better lives for the community,” he added.

According to Advorsys chairman Professor Dato Ir Mohammad Dalib, the academy is prepared to train its students for the ever-advancing automotive industry. He pointed out that the academy’s students will not only be exposed to practical skills involving the vehicle itself, but the technology aspects of it as students will learn how to use IT in the automotive industry.

Meanwhile, Human Resources Ministry of Skills Development Department director-general Nidzam Kamarulzaman commended NB Group’s launching of Advorsys as it opens up technical and vocational industry training and education opportunities for Sarawakians.

“At this juncture, the percentage of skilled workers in Malaysia is still low, which is at about 28 per cent compared with other advanced countries such as Singapore, Australia, and others.

“Having said that, we have to take an effort to increase the number of skilled manpower, to ensure that the country can propel itself to becoming a developed nation, if not in 2020, in the next decade or so.

“Therefore, I’m glad to see that there are a good number of people in Sarawak taking up this programme,” he said.

He pointed out that Advorsys, via its link with NB Group, is exposed to the group’s numerous businesses in the automotive industry.

Also present during the launch were NB Group managing director Datuk William Ngu, Advorsys internal verifier Zaidi Ibrahim, and Kuching Bicycle and Motor Traders Association chairman Lau Soon Yiun.

Advorsys provides national occupational skills standards (NOSS) and Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) specialty training. It also provides trainings for automotive after service, with hands-on experience and training on various types of automotive and engines at its campus.

Aside from that, the academy offers programmes to enhance students’ technical, vehicle inspection, technology and knowledge skills, as well as career placement opportunities for its graduates.

At the academy, students go through three levels of training at the campus. The duration of each training level is 12 months. Following the training provided by the academy, students can opt for getting a diploma. There are currently 75 students at Advorsys.

Advorsys has sponsorships with JPK, the Chief Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Human Resources, MARA, PTPK, PTPTN, EPF (second account), and other industries and associations.

Meanwhile, NB Motors offers auto parts, sales and service for passenger cars from brands such as Honda, Toyota, Perodua, Proton, JAC, and other Japanese and European brands across Sarawak. NB Motors also provide auto finance and insurance services.
