LAHAD DATU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) is seeking assistance from the Sabah government to provide a plot of land for the construction of its permanent headquarters in Lahad Datu as its current office building is on rental basis.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman said only then the allocation of the building construction would be provided.

“ESSCom is still renting a building as headquarters and we will request some land from the state government and after we obtain the land we at the ministry will strive to get enough allocation for the purpose.

“The areas for the headquarters will be discussed later and the efforts will be implemented as soon as possible,” he said  at the opening ceremony of the Ar-Raudhah Mosque which was officiated by Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

Mohd Azis, who is also Sepanggar member of parliament, said  security in the East Coast of Sabah is under control but there are some issues that need attention to further enhance security in the area.

He said these issues would be brought to the ministry for further action. They include maintenance, equipment and the proposal to build a permanent office for ESSCom.

According to Azis, Tun Juhar who was briefed by ESSCom Commander DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali during his visit, had set forth some issues which would be brought to the ministry for serious attention.

In the meantime, Azis said new assets have been added through agencies under ESSCom to boost the security.

“Although it is still inadequate, the ministry will try its best to get more allocation to strengthen our security control,” he said.

Azis also said that the government through the Foreign and Defence Ministries had also discussed with their counterparts to boost cooperation between Malaysia and Philippines in addressing cross-border crimes.

At the event, Juhar and his wife, Toh Puan Norlidah R.M Jasni through Yayasan Nur Jauhar contributed RM10,000 to Ar-Raudhah Mosque chairman Sari Arsad for the use of mosque.

The Ar-Raudhah Mosque in Lahad Datu town, costing RM4 million, was fully completed in 2004 and would be able to accommodate a congregation of about 3000 people.

Also present were Assistant Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Uda Sulai and ESSCom Commander DCP Datuk Hazani Ghazali.
