KABONG: A 27-year old man, who went missing while swimming in Krian river on Saturday, has been confirmed to have drowned.
The body of Aziz Sofian Rosli was found by villagers participating in the search-and-rescue (SAR) operation at the mouth of Sungai Endut, about a kilometre from where he was last seen.
Saratok Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Nazry Mohamat said the body was identified by family members before being handed over to police for further action.
He said Bomba was informed of the incident at 6.20pm on Saturday and launched the operation yesterday morning.
Based on a police report lodged, several villagers saw Sofian, who was from Kampung Hulu Laut, struggling to stay afloat in the river before he disappeared from their sight.
Meanwhile, the location where he was last seen was just about 500m from the jetty where a 10-year old girl is feared to have drowned last Dec 24.
The victim, identified as Nur Syahadah Fatihah Imam, has yet to be found.
