LAWAS: Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) has approved RM20 million for provision of culverts in Limbang and Lawas districts.

In disclosing this, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources, said RM10 million would be allocated for the next two years.

He urged villages to submit their request to NRDA which has been allocated a budget of RM1.5 billion to meet the needs of the rural populace.

Awang Tengah, who is also NRDA chairman, Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development and Bukit Sari assemblyman, was speaking at the launch of Sarawak Minor Rural Project – Repairs and Rebuilding (MRP-PPRMS) project at Kampung Bangkatan in Merapok here yesterday.

He said the allocation is on top of those approved under the State Budget 2019.

The house repair project in Merapok is part of the first phase of 46 houses identified by the vetting committee for Bukit Sari state constituency under the ‘gotong-royong’ concept.

A total of 30 out of the 46 houses had been completed.

Meanwhile, Awang Tengah said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the best platform for Sarawakians to continue fighting for their interests and rights as its leaders and elected representatives are from the state.

“Elected representatives from Pakatan Harapan (PH) who may be Sarawakians still have to answer to their political masters in Semenanjung Malaysia,” he pointed out.

The deputy chief minister advised locals not to be taken in by the sweet promises of those seeking political capital but put their trust in GPS and the state government, saying its leaders are people–oriented and sensitive to the their needs and aspirations.

Awang Tengah later presented RM1.335 million worth of land compensation to 11 land owners whose lands were needed for four infrastructure projects in Ulu Merapok, Merapok and Trusan in Lawas.

Also present at the function were HDA committee members – Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Bukit Kota state assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibolah, Limbang Division Resident Ahmad Denny Ahmad Fauzi, Lawas district officer Ladin Atok, Limbang Division Land and Survey Department superintendent Awang Nazri Awang Saperi and Pemanca Rosli Majid.
