TAWAU: The marine police foiled an attempt to smuggle various types of controlled goods out to a neighbouring country without any approval from the Ministry of Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) on Monday at Sungai Pukul waters.

District commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said acting on information a ‘jongkong’ (boat) was stopped and checked at about 4pm.

He said checks on the boat found 1,921kgs of cooking oil, 720kgs of sugar, 612kgs of flour and six cooking gas cylinders.

Pajeri said all the goods were seized after the 49-year-old skipper failed to show letters of purchase from KPDNHEP.

He said according to the skipper, the goods were to be sent to Sungai Nyamuk, Indonesia.

He added the seized goods together with the boat were valued about RM41,250.

The case will be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 read together with Regulations 3(1) Control of Supplies Regulations 1971.
