TANJUNG MANIS: The plantation managed by Saranganis Sdn Bhd at Tanjung Manis Halal Hub here is expected to yield its first harvest this March.
The 93-acre farm has a number of pineapple variants namely the MD2, Josapine, N36 and Pound, says the company’s executive director Jason Jong.
“We expect export agreements to Hong Kong to be fulfilled in September this year,” he said in a press statement issued in connection with the visit by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to the plantation here on Monday.
Moreover, Jong said Saranganis intends to be involved in downstream industries such as juicing, adding that it also plans to involve local residents in a revenue-purchasing programme via contract-farming.
Awang Tengah was accompanied by Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small-Medium Enterprise Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) general manager Hashim Bojet.
