LAWAS: A van slid into the Lawas River at the Kuala Lawas ferry point this afternoon due to the carelessness of it’s driver, who left it unattended.
According to sources, the absent-minded male driver forgot to engage the handbrake of his parked van before he alighted from the vehicle while waiting for the ferry to arrive.
From a short distance away, he was horrified to see his van rolling away on the sloping ferry ramp before falling into the river.
Lawas Fire and Rescue Department personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a call from a member of the public.
The driver was left shaking his head at his costly mistake and mulling over the bill to fish his van out of the river to send it for repairs and being deprived of his means of transportation.
