SERIAN: Two clinics will be built in Siburan and Tabuan Jaya this year with another at Serian in 2020. Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said the construction of three hospitals in Lawas, Petra Jaya and Sri Aman will start this year.

“We will see the construction of Siburan and Tabuan Jaya clinics start this year, while the construction of Petra Jaya and Lawas hospitals will proceed this year too. As for Serian clinic, it was initially cancelled, but we try to schedule it for next year,” he said after visiting the project site at Serian and Siburan.

He said the cost of the project in Serian is RM30 million, RM40 million for Siburan and RM40 million for Tabuan Jaya.

He added that Sri Aman hospital was approved 12 years ago at the cost of RM200 million.

“Sri Aman hospital project is now about 35 per cent completed. It is supposed to be completed in August this year, but there has been a bit of delay again,” he pointed out.

On the Petra Jaya and Lawas hospitals, Dr Lee assured that both projects would proceed after being re-tendered.

He also said that a new clinic for Serian is needed as the present hospital is congested.

“The parking bays are insufficient while the out-patient clinic, accident and emergency department are crowded.

“So with the new Serian clinic, the outpatient clinic at the present premises would be moved to ease congestion,” he said.
