Three men arrested for suspected arson

LIMBANG: Police here have arrested three men to assist in their investigation into an arson case involving a classroom on the third floor of SJK(C) Chung Hwa here that was
50 per cent damaged by fire on Jan 17.

District deputy police chief DSP Tega Bilong said the suspects, aged between 18 and 20, were former students of the school.

“We are confident of solving the case with the arrest of the three suspects, who were then released after their statements have been recorded,” he said.

He added that investigations conducted on Jan 18, showed there were also attempts to burn three other classrooms the same night, using paper and lantern paper.

Police are investigating the case under Section 436 of the Penal Code for arson.

In an unrelated case, Tega said seven men high on drugs were arrested during a three-day operation conducted at several locations in the district.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 37 years were tested positive of Methamphetamine and Amphetamine. Also seized from them was 9.12 grams of syabu worth RM1,360.

Several of the suspects also had past records of drug offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 12 (2) and Section 15 (1) (a) of the same Act.
