SIBU: Kolej Laila Taib (KLT) will stay put in Sibu to continue its role as a higher education provider, says its chief executive officer (CEO) Eric Wong.

He said KLT Board of Directors has assured that the college would not be relocated to Mukah.

“KLT Mukah campus will be built to offer maritime and aerospace engineering programmes,” he said at the college’s convocation ceremony held at University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) campus here yesterday.

A total of 98 Diploma students from various disciplines received their scrolls from UCTS vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, who represented Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce and Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Eric added that KLT shall remain as a feeder college of UCTS to provide a complete pathway for its diploma programmes.

To the graduates, he said: “You being here is testament of your determination and drive to accomplish your dream.

“Each of you sitting before me has unique talents and skills, unique perspectives and life experiences.

“I challenge you today to accept the mantel of citizenship and become a leader in your community.

“Use your talents for the betterment of others and through your efforts, you will not only find great personal satisfaction, but also a contentment that in your own way, you have made our community better.”

He also urged them to use the skills they have developed and the talents that they were born with, and harness the same determination and drive that got them there and refocus those efforts for the good of all.

He also described KLT staff as the foundation of the college’s reputation.

“They help students and nurture them into someone who are here today … panning events and promoting the programmes to make our college known to the public.

“You have helped to build an enviable and outstanding college reputation that is acknowledged not just locally but also internationally,” he added.
