Seven schools closed in Sabah due to floods

KOTA KINABALU: Seven schools in Labuk Sugut and Pitas are closed because of flooding in the two districts.

State Education Department director Mistirine Radin said another three schools, SK Pamol, SK Ranau in Kota Marudu and SK Pekan Pitas II in Pitas are serving as temporary relief centres.

“SK Sualok, SK Binsulung, SK Sungai Sungai and SK Tampat in Terusan Sugut as well as SMK Pitas II, SK Sosop and SK Kusilad in Pitas are all closed as the schools’ ground are still flooded,” she said.

Mistirine said that the closure of the schools affected 1,989 students and 173 teachers.

As of this morning, 15 temporary evacuation centres housing 2,141 flood victims are still operational.

Five temporary evacuation centres in Kota Belud, Sipitang and Kudat were closed yesterday.

Ten of the relief centres are in Kota Marudu, three in Paitan and two in Pitas. In Kota Marudu, 1,990 people are still at the centres while in Paitan and Pitas, those still at the evacuation centres there are 124 people and 27 people respectively.
