KUCHING: A group of tenants in Wisma Saberkas recently raised funds to buy food items for the urban poor in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

Some also joined forces with other Good Samaritans to donate cash for the purchase of coffins which would be delivered upon genuine request by poor families.

Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw praised the tenants for their generosity despite challenging times.

Lim said the food items were for six Chinese families, four of whom live in KMC Flats at Ban Hock Road, one in Sungai Moyan and another in Samarahan.

Lim explained that buying coffin is believed to reverse their bad luck, and this act has benefitted many poor families with coffins delivered to Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of Kuching- Serian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian

“I thank all donors for giving back to society after achieving success in their businesses,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to charity work.

Lim said he can be contacted at 082248153 or 016- 8070388 (but not on social media) to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member.
