MIRI: Consumers here need not worry about shortage of essential items including goods under the Price Control Scheme as there are adequate supply for the festive season.

“Miri is not facing any shortage of essential items in the run-up to the Chinese New Year celebration,” Domestic Trade, and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Miri chief Joe Azmi Jamil assured during the launch of Festive Price Control Scheme at Boulevard Hypermarket by Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon Thursday.

He said enforcement team would continue to check prices at supermarkets, retailers and hypermarkets to ensure that essential goods are sufficient and there were no malpractices by retailers.

He urged consumers to report errant retailers to the KPDNHEP office.

Joe said KPDNHEP has listed 12 goods under the Festive Season Price Control Scheme, which will be in effect from January 30 until Feb 8.

The goods include live chicken, standard chicken, ‘super’ chicken, chicken eggs (grades A, B and C), pork, large white prawn, large pompret (bawal fish) and imported cabbage.

“We urge traders not to sell these items above the maximum price set by the government.

“We will conduct continuous spot checks to ensure that traders do not take advantage (of high demand during the festive season),” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Ting commended traders for adhering to the law and advised them not to take advantage of the occasion by selling goods above the price set by the ministry.
