SERIAN: A 41-year-old man died on the spot after a multipurpose vehicle crashed into him at KM17 of the Kuching-Serian Road at around 9.15pm last night.

Serian district police chief DSP Aswandy Anis confirmed the case today, saying that the victim has been identified only as Mady from Kampung Merang Lama, Serian.

“The victim was heading to Kuching when he is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle which crashed into the metal road divider,” said Anis in a statement today.

The crash flung Mady onto the highway, which was when the oncoming multipurpose vehicle – also headed for Kuching – ran over him.

“The victim was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious injuries,” said Anis, adding that the body has been sent to the Serian Hospital for a postmortem.

The driver of the mutipurpose vehicle was uninjured in the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
