KUCHING: Sarawakians should all strive to enhance the patriotic spirit of ‘OneSarawak’ and their love for the country, in addition to develop further the trust, unity and understanding between one another.

In this regard, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau chief Wilfred Yap views the all-year-round festive occasions ‘go beyond the superficial’ as they are parts of Sarawak’s rich culture and heritage.

“Let us not forget the multi-cultural and multi-religious fabric of our Sarawak society as it is through harmony and understanding among the various races that bind us all together as one people under ‘OneSarawak’,” he said in his Chinese New Year message, which was released yesterday.

According to Yap, all these festivals are still flourishing in today’s society – thanks to the older generation who have persisted in preserving and sustaining these events as a part of Sarawak’s heritage.

“Festivals, like the Chinese New Year, have become occasions for Sarawakians to get together; to renew familial ties and friendships.

“They also serve to anchor the community to its past, as well as link the younger generation with the older generation.

“On behalf of SUPP Public Complaints Bureau and SUPP Kota Sentosa, I wish all Sarawakians a ‘Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year’,” he said.
