Not Warisan’s stand to recognise Bugis, Javanese as natives

KOTA KINABALU: The Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) stressed that the statement by the Sabah Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Moktar to recognise the Bugis and Javanese ethnics as natives is his personal views and has nothing to do with the stand of the party.

Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua said Aidi expressed his views without informing the party’s leaders first.

“He (Aidi) is free to express his personal views, but what the public must know, this has never been discussed at the party level,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Yesterday, at the handing over of the letter of appointment to the Customs leaders in Tawau, Aidi said the Sabah government headed by Warisan would review the definition in the Native Interpretation Ordinance on Bugis and Java ethnic groups who were not included as natives.

Aidi said it is time under the era of the new government, the matter is addressed by reviewing the interpretation in the Ordinance so that the Bugis and Javanese people, who have long been living in Sabah, are also recognised as natives. — Bernama
