KUCHING: Sarawakians are impressed with the Chinese New Year decorations at the lobby of Wisma Bapa Malaysia which is said to embody the racial harmony in the state.

This is because apart from the usual lanterns, ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ lettering and peach blossom tree, there is a small ‘golden pig’ figurine included to usher in the Year of the Boar.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, said the decorations at the state government’s main administrative building demonstrated the spirit of unity and tolerance among Sarawakians.

He pointed out that Wisma Bapa Malaysia, among others, houses the Chief Minister’s Office, State Secretary’s Office, State Financial Secretary’s Office, State Attorney General’s Office and it also where the State Cabinet holds its meetings.

Meanwhile, many Facebook users gave their thumbs up to the decorations. One user said this showed that Sarawakians respect each other’s culture and that only Sarawakians can understand fellow Sarawakians.

Another user said she was recently at Wisma Bapa Malaysia and was impressed with Chinese New Year music playing in the building which helped to build up the festive mood.
