KAPIT: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs is asked to monitor the fuel supply situation here to ensure there is enough to meet demand during the Chinese New Year celebration period.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit said as with all festive celebrations, there will be many travellers coming in and out of Kapit via road – hence the spike in fuel demand.

“I appeal to the enforcement officers of the ministry to monitor the supply of fuel as there will be an expected increase in demand. Ensure that petrol stations have extra stock to meet the sudden (demand) increase during the festive season,” he said yesterday.

At the same time, Jamit also called on the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) to make sure there is enough water for all households, especially those celebrating Chinese New Year as it would be frustrating for them if their taps were to run dry during the celebration period.

Meanwhile, in his Chinese New Year message, the assemblyman expressed his hope for greater peace, prosperity and harmony in the coming year, saying it is his hope that unity and friendship among are strengthened among the various communities in Sarawak.

“Most of all, I wish for all of us here in Kapit to work together as a team for the betterment of our hometown,” he added.

He also called on those from other communities to visit their Chinese friends to share with them the joy of celebrating the New Year, adding he will be making his rounds in Kapit and Sibu.

“Lastly, travel safe and make sure your vehicle is in tip-top condition. Observe all rules and adopt a ‘safety first’ attitude,” he said.
