MIRI: A teenager attending his cousin’s wedding here with his family drowned in the swimming pool of the hotel they were staying at on Saturday.
Deputy district police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol when contacted said the 17-year-old from Kuching was pronounced dead at Miri Hospital around 8.35pm.
“The victim went to the swimming pool alone after having lunch with his family. According to the father, the teen did not know how to swim and had been told by his mother to stay away from the pool,” he said yesterday.
Mohd Sabri said during the incident, there were three other hotel guests in the pool but that none of them had realised what had happened.
Police have classified the case as sudden death, he added.
