MIRI: The three local airlines are commended for increasing flight frequency and seating capacity to major destinations in Sarawak during the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon said this, coupled with lower fares, gave Sarawakians who live and work in Peninsular Malaysia and abroad the opportunity to return home to celebrate the festival together with their loved ones.

“We are pleased that Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Malindo Air have increased flight frequency with a capacity of
about 60,000 seats during the two-week CNY period, “ he said when met by the press during his CNY open house in Riam, here, yesterday.

Penghulu Haw Min Wai, UPP Pujut chairman Bruce Chai and several NGO leaders were also present.

Dr Ting said this was the initiative of the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to enable Sarawakians in
Peninsular Malaysia to return home to celebrate the big occasion.

He hoped that the same initiative would be implemented during Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya and Christmas.

He said he was grateful that many people from different religious and racial groups came to his open house, proof that multi-racialism is alive in Sarawak and Malaysia.
