SIBU: Police have classified the passing of former Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew as sudden death.

Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the police came to this conclusion as they found no criminal elements involved in the death of Andrew, who was the only son of Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

Nevertheless, Stanley said they would now wait for the post-mortem to confirm the cause of death of Andrew.

It is understood that the post-mortem began this afternoon and is still on-going.

Datin Sri Pauline Leong said she had found her son Andrew unconscious in his dressing room at around 9pm yesterday.

Leong said she called in a doctor to resuscitate Andrew, but, failed.

“Andrew was then taken to a medical centre, where he was pronounced dead at 11pm,” she said.

Soon Koh, when met at his residence this morning, said they would not speculate the cause of Andrew’s death and would wait for the autopsy report.

He said Andrew had left their house at around 7am on Sunday for jet-skiing in Tutus, a two-hour boat ride from Sibu.

“While there, he drank with the longhouse folk. When he returned, he must have been exhausted. Andrew went straight to his room to rest.”

He said when his son did not come down, his wife went to check and found Andrew lying on the floor unconscious.
