Disabled man arrested on suspicion of drug abuse

MIRI: Police arrested a disabled man on Monday during a raid on a house in Krokop, on suspicion of drug abuse.

The 52-year-old suspect was nabbed following a tip-off.

In a statement yesterday, Miri District deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol said police found two transparent plastic packets inside a wallet, containing a crystalline substance weighing 0.7g, which is believed to be methamphetamine.

“After that, police searched inside a car where the personnel found seven plastic packets containing a crystalline substance also suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 5.48g,” Mohd Sabri said.

The drugs were estimated to be worth RM1,000. The suspect also tested positive for drug abuse.

“The suspect had previous drug-related cases,” Mohd Sabri added.

Police are investigating the case under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 12(2) of the same Act for illegal possession of drugs.

The suspect is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.
