KUCHING: Family members, mostly parents of several Sarawakian detainees in Cambodia, were called to the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here today.

Around 12pm they met up with its state director Deddy Faisal Ahmad and held a closed door meeting.

Family members declined to speak to the press after the meeting was over.

It was understood that the meeting was held to inform family members of the latest developments in regards the detainees in Cambodia.

At the moment, all 47 Malaysians detainees including the 44 Sarawakians, aged between 19 and 44, have been placed in jail in the province of Banteay Meanchey following their arrest on Dec 11, 2018 for suspicion of their involvement in an illegal online gambling racket there.

Efforts by Malaysian authorities and the Malaysian embassy in Cambodia to release the Sarawakians are ongoing despite mainstream media in Cambodia reporting that these detainees had to go through the process of law in the country.
