Six men arrested over assault and robbery in Manggatal

KOTA KINABALU: The police arrested six men to facilitate investigations into the assault and robbery case at Kampung Darau Lama, Manggatal on February 7.

The 46-year-old man is currently still warded at Queen Elizabeth Hospital II for treatment for the six-centimetre gash at the back of his head, acting district police chief Superintendent George Abd Rakman said.

George disclosed that the suspects, were all local men aged between 19 and 39 and all tested positive for drug use. Four of them were ex-convicts, he added.

“One suspect was picked up at 10.30pm on February 7 in Manggatal, while the remaining five were picked up on February 8 within Kampung Darau. Police recovered some cash, several handphones including the one belonging to the victim, his bag and a motorcycle that was believed to have been used during the robbery,”  he said.

All the suspects are remanded until February 14 to facilitate investigations into case.

At about 4.25am on February 4, a villager at Kampung Darau Lama reported to the police the presence of a man shouting for help outside his house.

George said the man told police responding to the report that he had been attacked by several men earlier.

“During the assault he was hit on the back of his head, rendering him unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he found that the assailants had robbed him of his sling bag containing about RM8,000 cash and his handphone,” said George.

The man then went to one of the houses at Kampung Darau Lama to seek help, he added.
