KUCHING: Cambodian authorities have yet to bring charges against the 47 Malaysians presently being held in a Cambodian provincial jail over their alleged involvement in illegal online gambling.

This was confirmed by one of the affected family members, who visited the Cambodian facility today.

Two affected family members were part of the delegation led by Julau MP Larry Sng to visit the 47 Malaysians, who were arrested in the city of Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province in western Cambodia on Dec 11 last year.

Media practitioners also made part of the delegation, but not all of them were permitted to enter upon their arrival at the prison at around 11.20am.

With tears rolling in her eyes, an affected mother said she could not be more relieved to see her child healthy despite being detained in the foreign land.

She was thankful that her child as well as 46 other Malaysians were treated well in the Cambodian jail.

The mother earnestly hoped that the Cambodian government will release the 47 Malaysians so that they could return to their families as soon as possible.

Even though this group of Malaysians have yet to face any charges, the mother said they were not informed whether the 47 would be charged in court.

Despite the visit, she said they had no clue as to what is going to happen next.

According to the mother, most of the Malaysian detainees said they miss home a lot and particularly their parents.

Of the 47 Malaysians, 40 are from Sarawak, four from Peninsular Malaysia and three from Sabah. In a breakdown for those from Sarawak, 33 are from Kuching followed by six from Sibu and one from Sarikei.
