LAHAD DATU: A local man and two Indonesians have been detained by the police to facilitate investigations into drug-related activities in the district.
District police chief ACP Nasri Mansor in a statement yesterday said all the three suspects aged between 17 and 27 were caught separately during Ops Tapis at Bandar Tabanak and Jalan Kiambang on Monday.
Nasri said the first suspect, a 17-year-old teenager believed to be a drug pusher, was detained after he acted suspiciously at the parking lot areas in Bandar Tabanak and a police team found a transparent plastic packet containing crystal-like substance believed to be syabu and foils.
“The seizure weighing 5.20 grams was estimated to worth RM780 and the suspect were brought to the Lahad Datu police headquarters for further action.
“The suspect later tested negative for drug abuse and has been detained to facilitate investigation under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he said.
The two other suspects, a 27-year-old local man and a 23-year-old Indonesian were picked up from a vehicle during operation at Jalan Kiambang.
Both suspects hailed from Felda Sahabat were behaving suspiciously.
“Search conducted on the driver was in vain, however, the passenger has handed two plastic packets containing substance believed to be syabu and a plastic packet containing foils when inspected by the team.
“The seizure weighing 5.42 grams was estimated to worth RM813 and both suspects were taken to the headquarters for further action,” he said, adding that both suspects were tested positive for consuming drugs.
Nasri added that the case was being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
