KUCHING: Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah is leading a delegation to visit the 47 Malaysians detained in Cambodia today.

The delegation, representing the Sarawak government, will depart for Siem Reap from Kuala Lumpur at 6.45am today and is expected to arrive at the prison in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey in the afternoon.

Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Sarawak Foreign Affairs director Deddy Faisal Ahmad, a special officer of Fatimah’s ministry and a bodyguard are among those in the delegation.

They are expected to return on Saturday.

Fatimah when contacted said she had met Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday before flying off to Kuala Lumpur in the evening.

“We are trying to do our best to bring our people back as soon as possible. However, this is a very sensitive issue involving government-to-government negotiations, and needs to be done professionally.

“We will visit the Malaysians at the detention centre and communicate with the authorities there,” she added.
