‘No shortage of fuel supply expected in Miri following tanker truck accident’

Firemen are putting the fire following a single-vehicle accident at KM51 Bintulu-Miri coastal road this morning

MIRI: Consumers in Miri have been assured that there will be no shortage of fuel supply following a single-vehicle accident at KM51 Bintulu-Miri coastal road this morning.

The accident involving a tanker truck has caused the driver to be slightly injured and over 30,000 litres of diesel and RON95 loss in the flame.

“The supply of fuel should not have any problem for Miri. The station will get more delivery as soon as possible and no short supply is expected,” Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon told The Borneo Post in a telephone interview today.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Miri head Joe Azmi has also reassured that there will be no shortage of fuel supply in Miri due to the incident.

“They will be replacing the delivery soon, estimated to reach Miri about 6pm,” he said.

In the 8.30am incident happened near Kampung Pelapi in Bekenu, the driver was transporting diesel and RON95 from Bintulu to Miri.

Investigation revealed the driver had earlier lost control of the vehicle before causing the truck to skid to the left of the road and overturned.

The driver has managed to get out of the truck on his own and immediately after there was a spark from the lorry believed to have been caused by its battery leading to the truck to catch fire.
