KAPIT: All stakeholders, including the local authorities and the locals, need to work closely with one another to ensure that this district would continue to progress and prosper.

In stating this, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat this is due to Kapit being ‘a small place’ and still lacking behind other more-developed districts and divisions.

“We have to work closely as a team for the betterment of Kapit, our hometown. We are still lacking behind (others); we still have a lot of catching-up to do.

“It is important to develop the rural economy, (via means such as) opening up land for commercial agriculture to generate more incomes. When rural communities have good incomes, this would benefit the businesses in town,” he said when met during his recent round of Chinese New Year visits to key Chinese figures here and in Sibu.

On his ‘marathon visits’, the assemblyman said they were meant not only to share the festive joy with those celebrating, but also to renew friendships, establish closer rapport and strengthen networking in order to serve his Bukit Goram constituents better.

Meanwhile, Jamit was accompanied by his son Douglas Jefferson, his nephew Cochan Amos, Insp Mackey Hirano from Kapit police, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bukit Goram branch deputy chairman Watson Awan, its Youth chief Jason Jarrau and Penghulu Pasang Tubak, during the visits.

They attended the Chinese New Year open house gatherings hosted by Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kapit branch chairman Ling Thian Ing, its respective Women and Youth chiefs Councillor Jenny Yii and Tommy Wong Chong Wei, Malaysian Red Crescent Kapit Chapter chairman Dr Sia Tih Kong, Kapit Kwang Tung Association chairman Kong Sien Hua, as well as local Chinese community leaders Kapitan Yiap Yii Hoo and Kapitan Kong Cheak He.
