MIRI: More skilled workers are needed in making Malaysia an advanced and progressive  nation, says Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon.

Speaking during the SMK St Columba’s Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration at the school hall yesterday, Dr Ting said students should never give up on their studies, and must work hard to earn good grades so that they could contribute to society when they work later.

“We need a lot of skilled workers. Many parents would want their children to become doctors, engineers, lawyers or architects. However, not everyone can do that and some students might not want to be in these fields, but it is most important that you never give up on your studies.

“As our country advances, we need skilled workers like farmers, technicians, electricians, welders. Technical skills are now much sought after. I thus encourage all students to take up what’s  marketable” he said at the gathering.

Later at the event, Dr Ting presented a RM3,000-grant from the federal government to the school’s parent-teacher association to run its activities.

Senator Alan Ling, headmaster Subah Nyareng, vice chairman of the school’s management board Simon Cheong, and a PTA representative were also present.
