LAHAD DATU: A civil servant and a  local man were caught for allegedly possessing and abusing drugs during a raid on a house at the government quarters in Jalan Segama on Tuesday.

District police chief ACP Nasri Mansor in a statement yesterday said both suspects were picked up by a team of police from the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department during the 8.50pm operation.

Nasri said acting on tip-off, the team raided an unnumbered house at one of the government quarters.

“When knocking on the door, one of the suspects, age 37, opened the door while the other suspect, the 52-year-old civil servant, was inside the house.

“Inspection on the first suspect found nothing illegal but the team found a chain of keys. The suspect later led the team to a room under the house,” he said.

According to Nasri, inspection on the room later found three translucent packets containing crystal-like powder believed to be syabu weighing 6.25 grams

estimated to worth RM987 and 15 foils on the floor.

He said the suspects and the seizure were later taken to the Lahad Datu police headquarters where the civil servant was tested positive for drug abuse.

Nasri said the 37-year-old man was tested negative, however, the suspect who had a prior record under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act (DDA) 1952 in 2017 was put in the wanted list for selling drugs since a year ago.

He added that the government department’s driver and the unemployed man would be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of DDA 1952 and Section 39A(1) of DDA 1952.
