MIRI: More development projects have been planned for Batu Niah to further change its landscape.

This in line with his desire to make Batu Niah a vibrant town with many economic activities as well as to provide and further improve its infrastructure, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni said.

“Batu Niah is facing some issues and the major issue is on the delayed construction works for Batu Niah’s fire station project.

“I’ve highlighted this issue during Parliament sitting and the minister in charge has given a positive reply and promised to resume the construction works to ensure the project is fully completed,” he stated in his address at the Batu Niah Charitable Trust Board’s Chap Goh Mei celebration at Batu Niah on Tuesday.

In addition to that, Lukanisman informed the people of Batu Niah that he would continue with the agenda to build a new health clinic for Batu Niah.

He was happy that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had recently announced the plan to build a bridge across the river to the Niah National Park’s walking trail.

With the bridge, he said visitors would not have to use a boat to go to the other side of the river to reach the park.

He expressed confidence that the development projects would be a catalyst for more economic activities in Batu Niah.

“Once these projects are in place, there would be more people coming to visit Niah National Park and then bring more business to Batu Niah town.

“Thus, I’m seeking total support from the people in Batu Niah as well as surrounding areas to work together in promoting Batu Niah town. It is important for you to keep Batu Niah town clean and beautiful.”

At the same time, he asked for more input from the community leaders as well as ideas from the people on the ground on how to make Batu Niah one of the preferred places to visit, particularly in the aspect of tourism.

He also called on the people in Batu Niah to continue to work closely with the state government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Abang Johari.

“Sarawak is our land and it is a need for us to safeguard our interests.

The most important mission is to claim back more Sarawak’s rights from the federal government.”

Later at the same function, he announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 for the Batu Niah Charitable Trust Board.

Also present were Penghulu Haw Min Wai, chairman of the trust board Chai Kuek Min and organising chairman Hii Yang Huat.
