KOTA KINABALU: Consumers registered with the Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) in the state, including those in the Federal Territory of Labuan will enjoy of up to 2.5 per cent rebates from their pro-rated deposits made to the company.

SESB’s general manager (corporate communications) Chendramata Sinteh said the move would involve a total of RM7.7 million worth of rebates to be credited directly into consumers’ accounts by February.

“The electricity deposits charged as a form of security for damages or any liability (if any) or to settle outstanding bills in the event of consumers want to terminate the contracts, in accordance with the regulation 5 (5) of the Licensee Supply Regulations 1990,” she said in a statement here yesterday.

Chendramata said the rebates to be paid would be equivalent to the customers’ two months’ average electricity bills and would be reviewed every six months.

She said the additional deposits would only be imposed if there was an increase in the customers’ electricity usage.

However, if the average electricity usage was less than the deposit paid, then the customers could claim the excess amount via rebates, she said.

“For details, consumers can visit the nearest SESB branches or call customer service lines at 15454 or 088-515000,” she said. – Bernama
