The suspect could be seen with blood streaming from his head after the fall.

KUCHING: A 28-year-old man was caught redhanded after a failed attempt to break into a house at Lorong Hup Kee here at around 11am today.

According to State Criminal and Investigations Department (CID) chief SAC Denis Leong Soon Kuai, the house owner was alerted to the burglary attempt via his house’s security system that was linked to his phone.

“The house owner then contacted his neighbours for assistance. They then managed to arrest the culprit,” said Leong in a statement.

Some stolen items were also recovered from the suspect’s sling bag.

The case is classified under Section 457 of the Penal Code which deals with lurking, house-trespassing or housebreaking in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment.

It was learned that the apprehended suspect had decided to climb the house’s roof in a bid to evade capture.

The suspect’s attempt to hide on the roof failed when he lost his footing and fell to the ground, injuring himself in the process.

He was then immediately surrounded and apprehended by members of the public and neighbours who had gathered to see what the commotion was about.

The suspect was later brought to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.
