MIRI: Contractors involved in the upgrading works on dilapidated schools in Sarawak are reminded to always comply with the required standards and set specifications.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said  any contractor awarded with project such as this, must possess a high level of discipline, as well as the ability and sense of urgency to finish the works on schedule.

“In any contract, they (contractors) need to complete projects in time – it is their obligation for the people of Sarawak, especially the children and the parents because children cannot wait for too long. They need the school where they can get education.

“The children are our assets. The future belongs to them and we want the best for our children,” he told reporters during a site visit to Sekolah Rendah Agama Rakyat (SRAR) Miri yesterday.

Adding on, Ting thanked the Ministry of Education for the allocation of RM100 million for repair works on 33 dilapidated schools in Sarawak.

On the federal government’s agreement to the RM1 billion loan repayment from the Sarawak government meant for works on dilapidated schools in Sarawak, which was announced by the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, Ting said Sarawak had initially offered this to the federal government last year.

On SRAR Miri, Ting was briefed about the progress of works on the primary school’s drainage and also one of its classrooms – all costing RM106,000. Construction is expected to reach completion by end of next month.

Prior to visiting SRAR Miri, Ting went to SK St Joseph Miri to check on the progress of the RM53,000 works on its canteen, which should reach completion soon.
