SIBU: A total of 105 needy cataract patients here will receive Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) and undergo operation with help from Rotary Club of Sarikei, Rotary Club of Sibu and CIMB Foundation through the ‘Rotary Brings Vision To Sibu’ programme.

The programme is specially tailored for cataract patients from the low income group.

According to assistant district governor of Rotary Club District 3310, Johnny Su, this ‘Gift of Sights’ project is jointly organised by Rotary Club of Sarikei and Rotary Club of Sibu. Su was representing the District Governor Henry Tan.

“Rotary Club of Sarikei, together with Rotary Clubs from District 3310, and with financial support from our major sponsor, CIMB Foundation which has donated over 300 IOLs to various hospitals since the club’s inception in 2016.

“Thus, I encourage Rotary Club of Sarikei to continue this very meaningful signature project to give sights to the less fortunate people,” he said during the programme held at Sibu Hospital yesterday.

Presidents of Rotary Club of Sarikei, Rotary Club of Sibu – Chieng Tiong Tong and Fabian Ling respectively, and deputy dircetor of Sibu Hospital Dr Nolan Teo were also present.

Su said the IOLs are meant for the treatment of eye cataract, which is the main cause of blindness worldwide, especially among old persons.
