KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to select the chairman for the party’s Sarawak branch.

Although it has been accepted into the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak fold, Bersatu Sarawak is currently working without even an interim chairman.

Interim secretary Jaziri Alkaf Abdillah Suffian said Bersatu Sarawak is waiting for Dr Mahathir to appoint a leader.

“We do not have a chairman yet, and I’m the interim secretary. There will be an appointment from Tun (Dr Mahathir),” he told journalists after attending a PH Sarawak meeting yesterday.

According to Alkaf, Bersatu Sarawak has 18,700 members.

“Some of our members are registered through online,” he said, adding that all party members are Sarawakians.
