LAWAS: Youths must take up the challenge of defending Sarawak’s rights in order to shape the destiny of the state as well as their own future.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that youths need to understand the importance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) in that without the agreement, Malaysia would not have come into existence.

“You (youths) must not compromise in the fight to regain the state’s rights, which was spearheaded by our late chief minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, and continued by our current chief minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he said at the closing of the ‘Today for Tomorrow’ youth transformation workshop.

He stressed on the need for youths to have the right character and attitude, as well as a good understanding of Sarawak’s unique history, culture and traditions.

“It is equally important that you equip yourself with the right educational and skills capacity so that you will be able to cope with the fast-moving challenges of today’s world,” he added.

During the closing, Awang Tengah fielded questions from participants on issues such as infrastructure and amenities needed for Form 6 students here, faster internet services, more equipped libraries, and funds to improve facilities in schools.

Present with him at the function were Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong, district officer Ladin Atok, Limbang Resident Ahmad Denny Ahmad Fauzi and others.
