SIBU: The body of a 15-year-old boy who went missing after he jumped into the Kanowit River on Sunday to save three of his friends from being swept away by strong river currents in their sampan was found this morning.

The body of Carlos Paee, a student of SMK Kanowit, was found at 8.10am after the Search and Rescue mission resumed this morning following two days of searching.

The firemen have handed Carlos’ body to the police, who sent it to the hospital mortuary in Kanowit.

The operation ended at 8.50am.

Before the tragedy on Sunday at 1pm, three of Carlos’ friends had boarded their sampan to cross the river to pluck rambai fruits on the opposite bank.

However, their boat was swept away by the strong currents as the three were not skillful in rowing.

Carlos, who was also a former Bomba cadet, and another identified as David Lee Jilan, jumped into the river, trying to save the three in the drifting sampan.

Carlos was swept away by the strong current while David managed to swim to the bank.

The three in the boat were rescued shortly after by villagers.

Also involved in the search were the police, villagers and Civil Defence Force personnel.
