KOTA KINABALU: The State Water Department has refuted claims that the quality of water in Sabah has deteriorated since the department took over water treatment plants.

Its director Amarjit Singh gave the assurance in light of a recent statement published by local newspapers claiming that the state’s water quality had dropped due to the said takeover.

“There were claims that our water has been affected. This is simply not true. The statement has been disputed by the department.

“Our plants have all the necessary chemicals (to ensure the good quality of water) such as aluminum sulphate and so on. There is nothing to worry about,” he told reporters at a press conference yesterday.

He stressed that the plants are still being run by the same staff, which have already been absorbed by the department.

“Thus, the quality of water will not be affected,” he reiterated.

Amarjit also reminded the people of Sabah to be more prudent in their use of water, as per the advice by Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony in light of the current water issues in the State.

“The minister (Peter) has advised the people of Sabah to be thrifty and prudent when using water.

“If you see any leak, you need to repair it. Every drop now counts. This is an advice from the minister himself,” said Amarjit.
