KAPIT: Residents of Rumah Belikau Kaya and Rumah Jugah Lidi of Sut in Baleh area have been waiting for one whole year to have 24-hour electricity supply connected to their homes.

This is despite the fact that the appointed contractor had already installed overhead high tension electricity cable under the Rural Electricity Supply (RES) programme at the vicinity of these longhouses last year.

Recently DAP Sungai Kapit chairman Teng Mee Hieng and its DAP Social Youth (Dapsy) chief Bruwin Jumput visited the folk at Rumah Belikau Kaya and Rumah Jugah Lidi for dialogues.

During the dialogues, representatives of Rumah Belikau Kaya Dian Menggu and Rumah Jugah Lidi Deo Kusan had expressed their hope to the visitors for electricity to be supplied to their respective longhouses as soon as possible.

Around 30 families from the two longhouses hoped to benefit from the 24-hour electricity supply from Sarawak Electricity Berhad (SEB). Currently, they have been depending on generator sets to light up their rooms.

Apart from the power issue, the residents also hoped for government’s aid to improve the access road leading to their longhouses. Part of the road face the risk of collapse due to soil erosion.
